Special Issue on Indian Poetry in English

The issue besides the usual sections, has a special focus on: Indian Poetry in English reflecting a “rich collection” of interview, literary articles, research papers, book reviews and poems by as many as 24 poets from all over the country.
The interview section covers an interesting conversation with D C Chambial, an esteemed poet and editor, by Editor-in-Chief Dr Sudhir K Arora.
Under Literary Articles, renowned author Prof Satish Kumar, poet & critic Dr Shaleen Kumar Singh and Editor-in-Chief Dr Sudhir K Arora not only present the survey of Indian Poetry in English but also underline the contribution of 'young and old' poets of the Contemporary Indian English Poetry.
The next section contains 4 well-written research papers – Imagery in Shiv K Kumar’s Where have the Dead Gone? and Jayanta Mahapatra’s Hesitant Light by C L Khatri, Poetic Representations: Cultural Differences in Hindi and English Reading R. K. Singh’s Poetry Through Translation by Varsha Singh, A Study in Imagery of Swami Vivekananda’s Poetry by Vishesh Kumar Pandey and Indianness in Kamala Das’s ‘The Old Playhouse’ and ‘Composition’ by Mansha-Ashraf.

Abnish Singh Chauhan

abnish-singh-chauhanDr Abnish Singh Chauhan (1979) is a bilingual poet, critic, translator and editor (Hindi and English). His significant books include Swami Vivekananda: Select Speeches, Speeches of Swami Vivekananda and Subhash Chandra Bose: A Comparative Study, King Lear : A Ctritical Study, Functional Skills in Language and Literature, Functional English, Writing Skills and The Fictional World of Arun Joshi: Paradigm Shift in Values. His deep interest in translation prompted him to translate thirty poems of B S Gautam Anurag under the title Burns Within from Hindi into English and some poems of Paddy Martin from English into Hindi. Besides Harivansh Rai Bachchan Yuva Geetkar Samman (2013) for his Hindi poetry collection Tukada Kagaz Ka from Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan, Lucknow, U.P., he is the recipient of Pratham Kavita Samman (2011) from Kavita Kosh (, Book of the Year Award (2012) from the Think Club, Michigan, USA, Srajnatmak Sahitya Puraskar (2013) from Rajasthan Patrika, Jaipur, Rajasthan, Navankur Puraskar (2014) from Abhivyakti Vishwam, Sharjah, UAE, etc. He also edits Creation and CriticismInternational Journal of Higher Education and Research and Poorvabhas. veerendra-aastikसंग्रह के भीतरी अवलोकनों के बीच-बीच में एक पाठक की उत्कंठा यह जानने की अवश्य रहती है कि यह कवि अपने संग्रह के बाहर कैसा होगा। मेरा मानना है कि समाज का आदर्श वही कवि बनता है जिसका व्यक्तित्व और कृतित्व पारदर्शी हो। व्यक्ति के अंतर्वाह्य जगत को उसकी प्रतिभा ही संतुलित करती है। कहा जाता है कि प्रतिभा व्यक्ति में जन्म के साथ आती है। और परिवेश संस्कारी हो तो साधनाएँ बचपन से ही शुरू हो जाती हैं। सन् 1893 में शिकागो (अमेरिका) में युवा विवेकानंद ने उद्भुत भाषण देकर विश्व में हिन्दुत्व का परचम लहरा दिया था। उन्तीस वर्षीय पी॰बी॰ शैली ने अज्ञात लेखक के रूप में ईश्वर के विरुद्ध हो जाने को आवश्यक मानते हुए एक किताब लिखी और छपवा डाली। महत्वपूर्ण प्रसंग यह है कि उस कृति की ख्याति ने उन्हें ऑक्सफोर्ड से निष्कासित करवा दिया। 15 वर्षीय नेपाली अपने पहले ही कवि सम्मेलन से विख्यात हो गये थे। मंच पर उपस्थित कथा-सम्राट प्रेमचंद्र ने कहा था- ‘बरखुरदार, कविता क्या पेट से सीखकर आए हो।’ यह सब प्रतिभा के ‘चरैवेति’ प्रभाव के अंतर्गत है। जैसे जल-समूह की गत्यात्मक शक्ति धरा फोड़ लेती है, वैसे ही प्रतिभा मील-स्तम्भ बनाती जाती है और आगे चलती चली जाती है। एक और सूत्र कथन याद आ रहा है। डॉ शन्तिसुमन के गीतों पर प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त करते हुए कभी डॉ विजेन्द्र नारायण सिंह ने कहा था- ‘प्रतिभा की एक पहचान यह है कि वह विकसनशील होती है।’ हमारे प्रिय अवनीश ऐसे ही प्रतिभाशाली कवि-लेखक हैं। एम॰ फिल॰ (अंग्रेज़ी) करते ही मात्र 24 साल की उम्र में एक अंग्रेज़ी किताब (स्वामी विवेकानंद: सिलेक्ट स्पीचेज) लिख डाली, जो परास्नातक पाठ्यक्रम में कई विश्वविद्यालयों में पढ़ी-पढ़ाई गयी। एक विश्वविद्यालय में कार्यरत् अंग्रेजी- प्राध्यापक अवनीश चैहान हिन्दी के क्षेत्र में आए तो मात्र 6-7 साल की अवधि में ही जो भी गद्य-गीत लेखन और संपादन कार्य किया, वह सराहा गया। आजकल वे अनेक छोटी-बड़ी पत्र-पत्रिकाओं में छप रहे हैं। गत 2-3 वर्षों में इण्टरनेट पर ‘पूर्वाभास’ जैसी पत्रिका निकालकर उन्होंने विशेष ख्याति अर्जित की है। हर्ष का विषय ही है कि इस कवि की कार्यशैली विश्वस्तर पर भी सम्मानित/ पुरस्कृत हो चुकी है। साहित्यिक दौड़ में  अभी तो इस धवक ने दशक भी पार नहीं किया किन्तु उसकी कविता का यह वामन रूप मेरे जैसे उम्रदराजों को चकित कर देने के लिए काफी है। इस अवांतर प्रसंग के बाद हम पुनः संग्रह के भीतरी लोक में लौटते हैं।
